DIYS Hogwarts Halloween Costume

Wow, I forgot to post about McGonagall's birthday on the 4th! So, to make up for that, I'll make this post for Hogwarts costumes.

Here is a simple Hogwarts Halloween costume idea, when you want to go for individual characters, it gets more complex:

First you should get a white collared shirt. Preferably a long sleeve button up, but it can be a polo one if you only have that since you will be covering it with a sweater anyway.

Then you need a gray v-neck sweater. It can also be black if that would work better for you.

Also, get a tie that will match the house that you wish to be from. You can do the striped red and yellow/gold or just stick with plain red. That’s for Gryffindor, for the other houses here are the color combinations:

Ravenclaw- Blue and Bronze/Brown
Hufflepuff- Yellow and Black
Slytherin- Green and Silver/Grey

Having a tie that is just Blue, Yellow, or Green will also work well enough.

Next thing you’ll need is either a black/gray school skirt (if you’re a girl) or black/gray pants (if you’re a boy). If you do not have  a school skirt, any black skirt can be made use of.

Wear white/gray socks (or black tights) and black dress shoes and you’re almost done.

Add a black cloak of cape to really complete the picture.

Then finally for a wand there are several things you could do. You could buy one of the Harry Potter wand models that are really expensive, use a fancy looking chopstick, find a stick and carve it awesomely, or just find a nice looking stick and use it.

A few extra accessory ideas include bringing a broom with you, having a trick or treat bucket shaped like a cauldron, or if you have a stuffed animal owl, then you could pin it to your cloak at your shoulder for extra coolness. These ideas are not essential to the costume, but would add to it.

If you want to go as a specific Harry Potter Character there are a few accessories you can add. Unfortunately a lot of them don’t have too many accessories that really would identify them besides their wands. Also, make sure to wear the correct tie color for the house of whichever character you are going to be.

Harry-
This is easy enough, draw a lightning bolt scar on your forehead and wear a pair of glasses like Harry’s. Also, if you have a snowy owl stuffed animal, then you can use my accessory idea mentioned above.

Hermione-
This one is trickier. One thing you can do is carry an armful of books with you. Also, if you want to spend a whole lot of money you could buy a time turner necklace, which would be awesome for other times besides Halloween, so it might be a good investment.

Ron-
If you go for the stick wand idea that I mentioned, then you can break it in half and then tape it together. Also, if you have a stuffed animal rat, then you can carry that around as well.

Luna-
This one is easier since she’s had many defining accessories. Among these have been a butterbeer cap necklace, Dirigible plum (looks like radishes) earrings, Spectre Specs, and reading a Quibbler Magazine upside down. If you’re really into the costume then you can walk around bare foot since Luna sometimes had her shoes stolen.

Neville-
Also difficult. For this costume you could carry around a fake toad or maybe a small potted plant that looks like mimbulus mimbletonia.

Draco-
One of the hardest, the only thing I can think of at the moment is carrying a nimbus 2001 with you. If you think you can convince two of your friends to dress up as Crabbe and Goyle and follow you everywhere with a sullen expression on their faces, then that could work too.

Ginny-
If your hair is orange or you happen to have a orange wig than that may be one of the only accessories I can think of. The only other I can think of right now is a battered old black journal that could be Tom Riddle’s Journal.

Okay, that’s is for now! If you want more Harry Potter Character Costume ideas then tell me in the comments and also tell me specifically which ones! Thank you!
